Got another tech-problem, this time with SE itself:
SE won't let me choose my graphics settings like i want. when i add just a little bit of AA or AF, SE tells me that my graphics card hasn't enough memory and so my settings will be changed accordingly. which means i end with high details, but a 640x480 resolution.
I got 1GB video memory, and the rest should be well within the specs, too. other games don't cause that problem.
Any hints??

It's an issue with SE itself. From within the game set it to the highest settings the game will allow; it's been my experience that you can set the AF quite high but it wont allow any AA.

From within your graphics adapter software (mine is the nVidia control panel) set it to override any application settings.

I have the following set on my GeForce GT8500

that will do, thank you.
i had the faint hope that there was another way (maybe SE would just let the player decide if he wants a low framerate or not )

No problem!

The settings are probably much higher than the game supports, but I get good frame rate and no jagged edges.
