Last night we were playing some of the new maps and we ran into a problem.  I was under the impression, perhaps falsely, that the map launcher was no longer necessary.  Pinata and Limey joined my game without the launcher but Angus could not.  Angus had to launch his game using the new map launcher.  Is this a Spotter related issue or is there something wrong on Angus' end?

Sounds like a problem on Angus's end.

The launcher has been superseded by Spotter.  Use of the launcher by the game host is both unnecessary and ineffective.  The launcher is incompatible with Spotter, and should never be used by the game host.

It has been my experience that as long as I have a map installed, I can join a game with that map, even if I have not used the launcher.

That is what I thought too.  Angus could not join, until he started SE with the launcher that is.  Perhaps it was just a coincidence that the launcher was involved?  What I mean is perhaps Angus' SE malfunctioned and needed to be restarted and the fact that he used the launcher is irrelevant?  Is this possible? Do I need to test Spotter to make sure we can't recreate this problem?

No i think youve misunderstood this is what happens to anyone I think , it happens to me and Angus .

If Pink hosts a normal map game say U-bahn , I join as normal and everything is fine . If at the end of that map he loads a new map , say exrtract the pilot .......... My game will stop loading , tell me the host is playing another map and do I want to load the map and reconnect ........ Obviously yes I do .

However ! If Mr Pink is already playing a new map and I havent used the map installer to launch the new maps , It will say " Error cant connect to server " And if I want to join the game then I will have to exit SE and use the map launcher to load the new maps and play  

Really?  No one told me that!  That's a horse of a different color!

And that was Angus`s problem , because we were alreading playing a new map and he hadnt used the map launcher to load the game he couldnt connect .

If he had launched SE with the launcher he would have been fine or if he had joined when we were playing an original map first he also would have been fine bar the message about loading new map and reconnecting , but that happens to me all the time  

So the only option for Angus was to exit SE and connect via the launcher

same here even thou I dont have a problem if pins is already hosting such map

I think its the same for everyone , if you connect to the game whilst playing an original map , your then ok when it changes to a new map bar the obvious message .

If you try to connect to the game whilst a new map is being played , unless youve used the map launcher first , your not getting in .

I can get in on pink's server when he is already playing those non standard maps without a problem...

Certainly one so worthy of the title THE Weasel will have an answer for us shortly!

I don't really use the launcher, so I can't speak to these idiosyncrasies.  But give it a good test of the various permutations and let us know definitively.

I will be around 7 pm, central time.

This week would be a good time for me and two volunteers to get to the bottom of this problem.  These volunteers would need to have the new maps loaded and access to the launcher version 1.5

I can do it tomorrow dude Im around all day

We never did get to test this.  I could be around tonight or tomorrow.  If two people with the new maps and the launcher are available.

The experience that TheLimey and Angus describe is exactly what happens to me.

I have also been having an issue joining a game running the original maps as a player if I have Spotter running. If I exit both Spotter and SE, then launch SE via the New Map Launcher 1.5, I can connect to the game.

mmmmm   I dont used the launcher at all In fact I never did installed the maps that way I just move the new maps in to the right Se installation folder.  I can join anybody1`s game at any point new, old maps.  changing to new map.

maybe there is a bug in the installation program, as far I know the new launcher requires the original SE.exe to be able to work....  maybe that is whats wrong all the issues going on. different .exe being used in the maps launcher.

I am running a fresh install of SE and I did the same as you; I copied the new maps into the Envoronments folder. I also copied the New Map Launcher v1.5 into the Sniper Elite folder; no installers were used.

My .exe and path are standard.

Let's test this some more.  I never use an installer to put the new maps in either.  I always copy them in.  We should also have a couple of people host so that we can determine that it's not something on my end that is causing this problem.

We should make a list of all the permutations of this we can think of so we can provide the best information about this problem that we can.

Here are a few permutations that I can think of. . .

Host running spotter, old map;
1. Players running only SE (no spotter or New Map Launcher)
2. Players running SE and spotter
3. Players running SE launched by New Map Launcher
4. Players running SE launched by New Map Launcher and running spotter

what about the OS? I am running windbloes 7...  about the ones running vista and xp? xp 64?

I am running Win XP Pro SP2 32-bit here in Halifax (home).

My machine in Toronto is Win XP Pro x64.

I will be home for the weekend then in Toronto all next week. If you want to test this weekend and then again one evening next week, it allows the opportunity to test both XP x86 and x64.
